Erotic Comics quote

Not surprisingly, I subscribe to a couple of Bettie Page mailing lists. From time to time, comics will be discussed. Tim Pilcher's Erotic Comics: A Graphic History from Tijuana Bibles to Underground Comix came up and unbeknownst to me, I am quoted on p. 118. Wonder what I said...

(Thanks, Herb.)

Hi Rick,

I'm the author of the mentioned book. The quote was lifted from something you wrote ages ago that I found online. Rather erroneously, my publisher has left out the credit for the original text, so that it looks like I interviewed you directly. I'd like to apologize in public to you for any misunderstanding! The text reads as:

“My grandfather never really understood what he had done wrong. He had never knowingly broken any laws. He always paid his taxes. He was just a businessman,” Wrote Rick Klaw.

“For the remainder of his life, Irving Klaw would collect bondage images from wherever he could find them, hoping to redeem his reputation by demonstrating that others were producing similar images without legal problems.”

Now you don't have to buy it to find out what you said! Be nice if you did, of course! ;-)

In the book I talk about how Irving never really understanding what he did wrong to receive the ire of the US Government. The answer is, of course, nothing! He was completely innocent and I think it was atrocious the way he was treated. I hope you think the book treats your granddad with the respect I have for him. Without him, so many talents would have remained undiscovered.

Feel free to drop me a line at: tim.pilcher@ntlworld.com, if you'd like to discuss further.

All the best,

Tim.

Cheers, Rick, for pointing out the link, which I should have done! Doing the research for the book I visited publisher J.B. Rund (in New York) who has the largest collection of John Willie artwork in the world. It was a real pleasure and an honour to look through the original pages of Sweet Gwendoline, all perfectly preserved.

Volume 2 is due in Spring '09 and will have a foreword by Alan Moore.

Trying to locate someone who can identify photographer of bondage pics appearing in The Art of John Willie Book One. I acquired a large box of original photos and they are the same ones that appear in this book....plus shots from same shoot that were not used. Email me at mityjunk@zetabroadband.com
